General information on travel agencies

Package holiday marketing and organisation is reserved for individuals and legal entities with a package holiday insolvency guarantee and which meet the other requirements for this purpose set out by the Tourism and/or Consumer Affairs authorities of the region where they have their registered office. These parties are called individual or legal-entity travel agents.

Legalised travel agencies are registered in the Tourism Register of the Spanish region where they have their registered office and are identified with an agency ID code comprising initials and numbers (e.g., in Catalonia, GC, in the Madrid area, CICMA, etc.).

Travel agencies have a financial guarantee which in the case of agency insolvency enables travellers to be reimbursed for amounts paid towards a trip they have not yet taken. It also covers repatriation if the agency insolvency means the contracted holiday must be discontinued when the traveller is at the destination.
